Located just north-east of the bustling town of Southport, the village of Tarleton is a popular residential area that has grown upon its development in the agricultural industry. Known for its rich soil, the village’s own landscape has provided the very foundation of its success.

The landscape is dominated by farms and leafy suburban lanes, where a real mix of properties give a glimpse into the variety of residents that call the village home. From spacious detached homes to cosy bungalows, converted barns and Victorian villas, the array of architecture adds such diversity to the village’s landscape. This assortment of homes attracts many different buyers, from those who are taking their first step onto the property ladder to those who are wanting to settle into their forever home.

Its semi-rural feel is an attractive trait for buyers who work in the busier areas of the region, travelling back home along the A Roads to be greeted by greenery and the banks of the River Douglas, entering a world that is altogether quieter and peaceful. The perfect place to enjoy a piece of tranquil retreat but not too far away from enjoying the bright lights of the nearby seaside resorts.

Lifestyle & Activities

As a village, Tarleton offers a quieter pace of life where there is much to do if one seeks to but equally offers a real refuge away from the busy and commercialised world.

With quiet and long country lanes, the village is the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon bike ride, away from the busy roads and amongst the stunning scenery of vast crop fields and the quaint homes of the farmers. For families, it is a place that can offer the best outdoors lifestyle for their children, where there are great places to play and let imaginations run free.

For those who enjoy sport, the village is home to some great sports clubs that not only allow newbies to meet their neighbours but also allow them to keep fit in the fresh rural air. Founded in 1987, Tarleton Rugby Union Football Club has been a core part of the village for decades, with many generations of the same family enjoying the vigorous sport.

The club is open to all ages, from fledgeling juniors to the more experienced seniors, although players of all abilities can train there to improve their game. Quite involved within the community, the club often hosts events that bring families and neighbours together in Family Fun Days.

Schools

Tarleton is home to two primary schools and one secondary school. Tarleton Community Primary School is a popular primary school within the area and although is larger than the average primary, pupils perform just slightly under the national average in the expected standard in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

Another primary is the Tarleton Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School, situated on Church Road. For parents who are wanting a church school education, the school is a popular choice and works closely with the local Holy Trinity Church and parish. There are often services for the children that are held in the church and pupils are able to join the Bell Ringing afterschool class at the church, learning about the ancient responsibility.

The school has been rated as a good school by Ofsted and has a varied curriculum that follows the National Curriculum which is underpinned by Christian values. It is a smaller than average primary school, allowing teachers to devote more time and attention to individual pupils. Pupils here perform higher than the national average with ninety-two percent of pupils meeting the expected standard in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

Tarleton Academy is a comprehensive secondary school that is both for girls and boys between the ages of eleven to sixteen. The school performs above the national average with seventy-one percent of the students achieving five GCSEs from A*-C including Mathematics and English. The school is smaller than the average secondary school and has smaller class sizes, allowing the teacher to give more care and attention to each individual pupil.

In their most recent inspection, Ofsted rated the school as ‘Good’ and also stated that the majority of parents found that their children are ‘supported in their learning and encouraged to reach their full potential’. When first years begin at the school, they are each allocated a personal tutor, helping to really identify their strengths and areas of improvements. With a broad curriculum, students are able to streamline their learning once they reach the end of Key Stage Three, allowing them to choose their subjects for GCSE study.

As a family-orientated pub, the children’s menu is small but hearty and the ice cream sundaes will make the fussiest of children finish their food.
